My background as a physician has been invaluable in creating work that approaches the figure from a unique perspective. Particularly when addressing difficult subject matter, I'm able to portray content with a positive ethos, treating each painting as if they were my own patient; in doing so, I find myself absorbed in the stories that live on through images.
My work strives to magnify aspects of the human form that often go un-noticed, sometimes deliberately and invites the viewer to examine the border between playful and poignant. In the series Malformations, I focus on pictures of people, many of them children, with so-called syndromes. While there may be subtle physical aberrations, each individual remains an emotional being, which resonates within the image. |
